Common reed

Plant | Poaceae
Phragmites australis

Characteristics

The common reed grows in tidal mudflats. The plant has strong underground stolons, and its above-ground stems grow independently and are hollow in the center. The leaves are approximately 3 cm wide and 15-45 cm long. It also grows yellow-brown flowers, as well as lanceolate caryopses. The common reed is a soil-holding and levee-strengthening plant with sand filtration and water purification functions.

Distribution

The common reed grows in the core area of Gaomei Wetlands.
